Position: Specialist Infrastructure – Unix & Database

Reports to: Team Leader Infrastructure – Unix & Database

Job Summary 

The primary focus of this role is to support the bank’s infrastructure by managing Unix and database environments. Responsibilities include configuring, installing, and administering Unix and database servers, encompassing hardware, SAN switches, and related appliances.

Key Responsibilities

•    Implement and maintain core IT infrastructure technologies, working closely with the Business Application and Security Teams.
•    Monitor system and database performance, proactively identifying areas for improvement.
•    Perform essential technical duties, including:
–    Database administration
–    Unix server and security management
–    Web services administration (e.g., WebLogic, WebSphere)
–    Backup and restore management via Veritas NetBackup
–    Patch deployment
–    Server cluster management using fail-over mechanisms.
•    Support internal and external audit processes, participating in relevant forums.
•    Document managed systems, including architecture diagrams, flow diagrams, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans.
•    Coordinate resources for server onboarding and commissioning.
•    Be available for 24/7 on-call support for major incident response.
•    Manage user account provisioning and de-provisioning for IT services.
•    Support incident resolution, change management, and problem management.
•    Troubleshoot complex issues and escalate to vendors when necessary.
•    Ensure smooth execution of end-of-day, end-of-month, and end-of-year processes, liaising with relevant teams in case of incidents.
•    Implement security measures based on quarterly/yearly vulnerability scans.
•    Ensure timely project deliverables, adhering to scope and deadlines.
•    Design, develop, and maintain management dashboards for new projects.
•    Implement optimised architecture for Unix servers.
•    Engage in organisational training sessions and contribute to cross-functional knowledge-sharing initiatives.
•    Provide relevant reports to the Infrastructure Team Leader as required.

 

Qualifications

Requirements

•    A Bachelor’s degree in Information and Communications Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent.
•    Relevant industry certifications (e.g., OCA, OCP, IBM Certified Administrator) are a plus.
•    Minimum of 2 years in a similar role, ideally within banking, financial sectors, IT service providers, or system integrators.
•    Understanding of resource allocation and sizing for various systems, including frontend, middleware, and database deployments.
•    Experience managing Oracle databases, including RAC management and RMAN backups, is highly advantageous.
•    Familiarity with backup appliances is a plus.
•    Strong knowledge of Unix-based operating systems (Unix, Linux, AIX, Solaris) is beneficial.
•    Familiarity with IT service management tools and best practices, such as ITIL, is advantageous.
•    Experience working with technology service providers is an asset.
