Financial Services: Competitiveness and Reform at the Centre of Post-Budget Discussions

Mauritius Finance convened its Members on 23 June 2026 at Hennessy Park Hotel for its Budget Breakfast Debrief, held in the presence of the Hon. Dr Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, who delivered a special address.

The panel brought together Daniel Essoo, Assad Abdullatiff, Fazeel Soyfoo and Anthony Leung Shing to examine the implications of the Budget 2026/27 for the financial services sector, with discussions centred on taxation, regulatory efficiency, ease of doing business and the long-term competitiveness of the Mauritius International Financial Centre.

Against the backdrop of the 2027 ESAAMLG mutual evaluation, discussions also underscored the importance of proportionate, risk-based regulation, effective policy implementation and sustained public-private dialogue in reinforcing Mauritius’ position as a competitive and trusted international financial centre.
