RISK AND COMPLIANCE OFFICER/ DMLRO
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Associate – Risk & Compliance / DMLRO to join our Risk & Compliance function. This is a key role within the second line of defence, providing hands-on support across financial crime compliance, regulatory advisory, monitoring, and operational risk. The successful candidate will work closely with the business, acting as a trusted advisor while ensuring the firm meets its regulatory obligations and maintains a strong risk and control environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Crime Monitoring
- Undertake risk-based reviews of client files to ensure compliance with AML/CFT, sanctions, FSC requirements and internal policies.
- Perform post-transaction monitoring, including sanctions screening.
- Conduct enhanced monitoring of PEPs, high-risk clients and high-risk jurisdictions.
- Support thematic and ad-hoc monitoring, including investigations linked to suspicious activity.
- Identify trends, control weaknesses, breaches or non-compliance and support remediation actions.
Advisory & Regulatory Support
- Provide practical, solution-driven advice to the business on:
o Client onboarding and ongoing due diligence
o Payments and transaction-related queries
o New business proposals and changes in customer risk profiles - Support implementation of regulatory changes impacting the business.
- Act as a point of contact for regulatory and compliance queries.
Reporting & Governance
- Maintain clear, auditable records of monitoring activity, investigations and working papers.
- Support preparation of qualitative and quantitative management information, compliance reports and drafting of minutes.
- Track and follow up on actions raised with first line teams.
Data Protection
- Support data protection compliance activities including:
o Review of data maps
o Control assurance testing
o Privacy impact assessments - Monitor data processing activities and assist with managing data incidents and breaches.
- Deliver or support data protection training as part of staff induction.
- DMLRO Support
- Investigate unusual or suspicious transactions.
- Assist with preparation and submission of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to the FIU.
- Ensure appropriate escalation of high-risk matters to the MLRO and senior management.
Operational Risk
- Identify and report operational risks across processes, systems and business units.
- Record and investigate incidents, loss events and control weaknesses.
- Monitor remediation actions to ensure timely closure.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 4–6 years’ experience in Risk, Compliance, Financial Crime or a related control function.
- Strong working knowledge of Financial Crime monitoring, AML/ CFT, fraud and regulatory requirements.
- Experience within financial services, fiduciary, investment management or wealth management preferred.
- Understanding of the Mauritian regulatory environment (FSC, FIU) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proactive, well-organised and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- High level of professionalism, integrity and sound judgement.
