Mauritius Tops Bloomberg Economics’ 2026 Africa Investment Ranking
Mauritius has secured the top position in Bloomberg Economics’ 2026 Africa Investment Risk-O-Meter, reinforcing the jurisdiction’s standing as a competitive and trusted investment destination on the African continent.
Published as part of Bloomberg Businessweek’s 2026 Investor’s Guide to Africa, the ranking assesses the relative investment attractiveness of 19 African economies across five key dimensions: economic strength, fiscal strength, institutions and governance, infrastructure, and external vulnerability.
Mauritius emerged as the highest-ranked jurisdiction, with an overall score of 0.6, ahead of South Africa at 0.5, while Egypt, Ghana, Botswana and Côte d’Ivoire each recorded a score of 0.3.
Notably, Mauritius distinguished itself through its strong performance in institutions and governance, recording a score of 1.7 in this category, alongside a positive assessment of its infrastructure.
A Recognition of Mauritius’ Institutional Strength
At a time when international investors are placing increasing emphasis on economic resilience, regulatory certainty and institutional credibility, this recognition carries particular significance for Mauritius.
The country’s performance reflects the strength of its governance frameworks, established institutions and business environment, which collectively contribute to investor confidence and reinforce its credibility as an international financial centre.
Over the years, Mauritius has built a solid institutional foundation, supported by a robust legal and regulatory framework, an extensive network of international agreements and a well-established pool of professional expertise. These attributes have been instrumental in positioning the jurisdiction as a trusted and reliable partner for international investors navigating an increasingly complex global investment landscape.
Strengthening Mauritius’ International Investment Proposition
Beyond its attractiveness as an investment destination, Mauritius has established itself as a strategic hub for international capital into Africa, connecting global investors with opportunities across the continent.
Its value proposition extends well beyond the domiciliation of investment structures. Through its diversified financial services ecosystem, encompassing global business, investment funds, banking, capital markets, wealth management and specialised financial services, Mauritius provides a comprehensive platform for the mobilisation, structuring, management and deployment of capital into African markets.
The jurisdiction plays an important role in facilitating private equity and venture capital investments, infrastructure financing and cross-border investment activities. It also offers an enabling environment for multinational enterprises seeking to establish regional headquarters, treasury operations and investment holding structures to support their expansion and operations across Africa.
As the continent continues to present significant investment opportunities across infrastructure, energy, technology and financial services, Mauritius is well-positioned to further strengthen its role in connecting international capital with Africa’s growth and development priorities. Its longstanding economic relationships with African markets, coupled with its international connectivity and financial services capabilities, provide a strong foundation for supporting investment flows, regional expansion and greater economic integration.
